Beyond Obedience : Training With Awareness for You and Your Dog
by April Frost, Rondi Lightmark, Martha Haas (Illustrator)

One of the best books on training and the relationship with your dog. I have corresponded with Ms. Frost and she is a very caring and supportive person. She also offers many workshops, I have not had to opportunity to assist to one but plan to in the future.
Help! My Dog Has An Attitude
by Gwen Bohnenkamp

The best book I have read on PREVENTING and dealing with behavior problems. Her chapter on puppy socialization is the best. If you have a puppy or are considering getting one, read this book FIRST.

People, Pooches and Problems : Understanding, Controlling, and Correcting Problem Behavior in Your Dog (Pets)
by Job Michael Evans, Kevin Smith (Photographer)

The author was a Monk of the New Skete Monastery and actually one of the founders of the monks training program. He later left the monastery and started training on his own in New York City. Unfortunately he passed away while still very young but ALL of his books are great, always with wonderful and witty illustrations.

Play Training Your Dog
by Patricia Gail Burnham

If you are considering serious Obedience Competition training with you dog I highly recommend the ideas in her book, especially if you are starting with a brand new puppy. She covers every exercise from Novice thru Utility.

Crate-Den Training : A Safe & Private Space for Your Dog
by September B. Morn

I consider a crate one of the best investments a puppy owner can make. This is a short concise guide on how to use it properly.

A MUST FOR EVERY PUPPY OWNER !!!

The Art of Raising a Puppy
by New Skete Monks

This book is a classic in Dog Training. They have a video series too, but think they are a bit boring. The book is much better.

Culture Clash
by Jean Donaldson

I love this book because the author has a very particular way of looking at things. Her part on the Planet Gorn is one of the best pieces I have ever read on why punishment usually never corrects behavior problems. If you blame your dog for everything wrong he does, you must get this book.

So Your Dog's Not Lassie: Tips for Training Difficult Dogs and Independent Breeds
by Betty Fisher, Suzanne Delzio

Excellent tips on training difficult breeds.
